April 2022 Wrap-Up

Advertisements

Despite being unemployed the majority of the month, April was quite busy for me. I read 4 books, dog sat for a friend, and tried some new restaurants. I ran a 5k and made some new friends in the process. I attended my first Red Sox game of the year. In between all of this I started packing up my apartment to move by the end of May. Then I finished the month out by starting a new job at a greenhouse!

April Books

An average month of reading for me, with 4 books total. I have officially crossed the half way mark of my yearly reading goal of 30 books!

I started out the month with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to complete my reread of the series. I love this book and this series, it was such a joy to get to read it again. The book series is so much better than the movies, I just can’t get over it. I am glad to be done though, because I can now move on to my ever growing TBR (to be read) list.

Next, I had really high hopes for Reminders of Him, as I have loved all of the Colleen Hoover books I have previously read. It was a really good story and I was invested for a long time… Until the ending. The way the book ended felt so rushed to me and very unrealistic. I am still a fan of hers though, and I am looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.

After finishing Harry Potter, I moved on to a Book of the Month novel- Once There Were Wolves. This book quickly put itself in the running for one of my favorite books of the year and it was definitely my favorite read of the month! The writing style and subject of the story was incredible and much different from what I usually read. I have been recommending it to everyone.

I had seen Neon Gods all over tik tok and was very curious about it as I love Greek mythology retellings. This was about Hades and Persephone and was much better than I originally thought after the first couple of chapters!

April Eats

I did a lot more cooking than usual in April, which was fun for me. But I did go out to eat a lot, and when I was down in Cape Cod, I tried some new restaurants that I loved!

Life Updates

The major thing I did in April was start packing to move out of my apartment. This was way more sad than I anticipated it being. My friends and I have lived there for 3 years and there are just so many great memories. But it is time for us to move on, we have out grown the area (the majority of our neighbors are college students) and are looking forward to making new memories in each of our new apartments. I still have the majority of my plants, some food items, an air conditioner, etc. left at the apartment to move out so I will be going back a few more times before our lease officially ends at the end of May.

I spent a week in Cape Cod, house/dog sitting for a friend. This was really exciting because I only ever go down to the Cape during the summer, so it was cool to see it in the spring before all of the tourists were there. Since there wasn’t as much traffic I decided to go visit some lighthouses/parks that I haven’t gotten to in the summer.

I also got to enjoy multiple sunsets:

I tried some new restaurants, two of my favorite being Moonakis Cafe and Moto Pizza:

Also in the month of April, I ran the BAA 5k during Boston Marathon Weekend. I ran in support of the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation. I had to wake up at 4:30 am to get ready and drive to Boston for 7:30 (I was house sitting in the Cape during this time as well). I am not a morning runner so I was very nervous about how this was all going to go but it was a lot of fun. I met one of my favorite TikTok runners and her running coach (Erin from TikTok, Coach Alysha). I am hoping to work with Alysha in the coming months to help prepare for my marathon aspirations for next year.

I went to my first Red Sox game of the year, thanks to my roomate winning tickets from her work:

Lastly, I started working a greenhouse while I look for my next full time position. I wanted to include this so that I could show some pictures of the beautiful plants and flowers!
